Tesla Official Videos

I joined Tesla in Summer & Autumn 2021 as the Official Content Production Intern under Consumer Engagement Team at Shanghai, China.

My role is assisted in and led production of Tesla’s official videos, covered a variety of Tesla Products & Services, including the vehicles, charging, software OTA release note videos, service, GigaFactory Shanghai production line, and China R&D.

In Dave's tenure, 13 official videos were created within 5 months, and they were adapted to 50+ short videos, and achieved 50 million+ views online (as of 2024).

The videos are also representing Tesla being displayed at auto shows, conferences, and 300+ Tesla showrooms across China, and repeatedly cited by global media outlets including WSJ, CNN, and BBC.

Light Up Cities, Enjoy Charging

Tesla Supercharging stations featuring Powerwall and Solar Roof have landed in China. This is my first full-cycle production with Tesla, which is intended to show the accessibility of Tesla's sustainable energy solutions. The video was filmed in Tibet and Shanghai.

During the shooting at Tibet, the altitude was as high as 15,000 feet, and all the crew members including myself suffered from severe altitude sickness. In this project, I participated in the scriptwriting, storyboarding, virtual location scouting, the filming in two cities, editing, and the translation for international publishing.

Foodie in a Tesla: How many cities can be traveled in one day

Role: Actor / B-Roll Cinematographer / Editor / Colorist

A foodie decided to start a road trip on the spur of the moment. He challenged himself to drive three cities on a Tesla and enjoy the local street food within one day. This video was a last-minute urgent production requirement by the Central China Marketing Team of Tesla. My team and I had no time to pre-script this video, so every scene was improvised and a significant challenge for me to edit.

From parts to a car, How a Model Y is built in Giga Shanghai

Model Y从零到一的生产过程，感受中国「智造」

From a single piece of aluminum to the world’s most sophisticated electric vehicle, this video gives the audience a glimpse of every step of manufacturing a Tesla Model Y from its highly-autonomous Giga Shanghai factory. This is by far the biggest project I participated in. In two weeks, my supervisor and I filmed seven different lines in Giga Shanghai. In post-production, I composited tons of time-lapse and organized a sheer amount of footage as DIT & editor. The video was retweeted by Elon Musk.

Precise and Exquisite, The craftsmanship of Tesla Bodyshop

用工艺成就匠心式的服务 - 特斯拉官方钣喷中心

Role: Cinematographer / Editor / Colorist / DIT

A commercial that highlights the state-of-the-art facility, and the craftsmanship of Tesla self-operated Bodyshop. I came up with the idea of starting the video from a toy car’s POV and then maximizing the facility's advantage, minimizing the damage on the vehicle.
